- Disk braking systems on your vehicle can generate extremely high temperatures in short durations of use?! Heat causes the brake fluid to break down which can lead to loss of braking.
- Brake pads and rotors wear down with use. Stopping distances can be compromised with thinning pads and rotors. Â
- Our Washington, DC Metro area is known for its traffic and consequently, frequent stop and go wear and tear on your brake pads and rotors. Â Due to these extreme driving conditions, you may need to replace your brake pads and rotors more frequently. Â Check with your service advisor.
Maintaining and servicing your braking system will give you the safe and secure feeling that your Volvo is meant to provide. Factory trained technicians will inspect the front and rear braking components such as brake pads, rotors, calipers and hoses. The technician will also verify that the fluid has a good temperature rating.Â
VOLVO GENUINE BRAKE DISKS
Behind every wheel is a disc or rotor. The friction of the brake pads pressed against these discs is what stops your Volvo.  Here, uniformity is critical in preventing "wobbling" (that off-balance feeling in the steering wheel) or a pumping sensation during braking. Whether solid or ventilated, exceptionally tight tolerances allow Volvo to produce discs that are true-round, perfectly flat and consistently thick. Volvo machines these discs from a precision-engineered, rust-resistant graphite material that provides superb heat conduction.
VOLVO GENUINE CALIPERS
It's a caliper that applies the brake pads to the surface of each disc. Hydraulic pressure exerted on a plunger in a cylinder within the caliper housing is what moves the pads.  Volvo employs an expensive and complex precision machining procedure to achieve a perfect fit between the plunger and cylinder. This ensures that caliper function is smooth and with no loss in pressure. The use of an extremely resilient rubber seal also keeps out contaminants and prevents the loss of brake fluid. It can also withstand enormous pressure (up to 10 kgf/cm2) and will retain consistent elasticity across a broad temperature range of -40ºF to 392ºF.
VOLVO GENUINE MASTER CYLINDER
Step down on your brake pedal. You're activating the master cylinder. It pressurizes the brake fluid, which in turn, operates the calipers. Both the master cylinder and its hydraulic reservoir have a common enemy: internal corrosion. Its formation can lead to the premature failure of both pistons and seals.  Every master cylinder made by Volvo features high quality pistons, seals and a precision-machined cylinder bore for maximum protection against pressure or fluid loss.  To prevent internal corrosion, Volvo ships every hydraulic reservoir unattached to the master cylinder and with a protective fluid sealed inside.
VOLVO GENUINE BRAKE PADS
Brake pads are applied to both sides of each disc. The resulting friction generates an abundance of heat. Volvo's testing and careful design process creates brake pads that can take this kind of torture. What's more, the "cleaning" effect these pads have on the disc surface helps keep it free of rust.
